Centennial School is one of three school partners participating in bringing colcha into the classroom through a grant applied for by HEART of Saguache and funded by Think360. Art teacher Taylor Hubbard has coordinated with HEART of Saguache grant writer and project organizer Adrienne Garbini since November 2023 to help bring this program to our art room!
Students in 4th, 5th, middle school and high school art began their first of two instructional days learning about the unique art of colcha embroidery and began practicing their stiches on hoops today. They will continue with a second instructional day on Thursday, and continue working on their projects one day per week in class until their projects are complete.
All material for this project including fabric, wool yarn, needles, scissors, and embroidery hoops are provided free to the students through the grant funding and are the students to keep after their project is finished. We will host a reception in December to celebrate the students hard work on their colcha creations!
