"Ms.! I came to school today SPECIFICALLY because I wanted to work on my sewing during art."
"This is such a peaceful thing to work on. I love doing this."
"Maaannnn, I've got this down. I'm gonna be making sweaters for my grandkids when I'm old."
These are just a few of the many, many positive things students had to say about our colcha classes today. Our second day of working with our guest colcha artists was just as successful as day one!
Middle and high school sketched out their colcha designs and selected their yarn for the project. There was close to $10,000 worth of beautiful wool yarn in the art room today for students to choose from thanks to the incredible grant HEART of Saguache received from Think360.
Elementary continued working on their colcha flowers and made some great progress on their petals. Students are already looking forward to continuing their work next week, and working every week until December when we will showcase their pieces at an exhibit at Centennial before winter break.
I would like to extend the most heartfelt thanks to the colcha artists who have spent these two days helping our students grasp the colcha stitch and have empowered them to create these beautiful pieces that are so uniquely tied to the culture of our community. Our students were on their best behavior and showed our guests all that is incredible about Centennial. I could not be more proud of the ways they have taken to this art form and really given it their all.
